Over 50 media professionals including bloggers, journalists, and storytellers attended the second edition of Social4Media Masterclass at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, September 4.

Participants at the free digital skills training event organised by Lagos based marketing and media company, ID Africa and marketing technology startup, Plaqad, were trained on how to improve their digital skills and have a deeper understanding of technology tools, in order to successfully innovate and grow in their respective career.

The event kicked off with a presentation by Femi Falodun, CEO ID Africa, where he explained why it is important for media practitioners to effectively use digital tools and social media to their advantage.

One of the speakers at Social4Media Masterclass, seasoned OAP and founder, Gbemisoke Shoes, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, shared her social media strategy for her brand and business with the participants, while she also advised media professionals to be “extremely careful” about the information that they put out to the public.

Yemi Johnson, Co-founder Natural Girl Wigs, also delivered a masterful presentation, with key insights on how to effectively market content for strategic business growth. He advised media practitioners to “invest in extremely good content.”

A panel discussion on ‘Social Content For Nigeria’ was presided upon by Comedian SLKomedy, Senior BBC Journalist Princess Abumere and Media Personality, Deji Mercury. Princess shared insights and tips on the importance of localising content to appeal to a mass audience, while SLKomedy and Deji both spoke on their unique but interesting approach to content creation.

For many media professionals, one of the major challenges has been the inability to effectively monetise their content which ID Africa Product Designer, Prince Ehima, Marketing Strategist Kayode Abass, and BBC Growth Editor, Michael Okeje provided solutions and strategic ideas for, as they discussed how participants can distribute and monetise content through the use of specific digital tools.

Editor-in-Chief, Zikoko, Fu’ad Lawal also delivered a masterful and extremely interesting presentation on what it takes for media practitioners to create content that the audience crave, while Kraks Media founder, Femi Bakre gave a step by step presentation on the strategies to run a successful media platform. Ken Ndubisi, a Facebook Ads Expert, rounded up the session with key strategies that participants can use to run adverts for their businesses.

Speakers and facilitators were gracious in providing satisfactory answers to participants’ questions, with many participants expressing their delight at the opportunity to be a part of the event. Returning attendees also gave testimonials on how the first edition of the Social4Media Masterclass had helped them to grow their platforms to a desirable level.
